Top 5 Laptop Keyboard Problems

Assume you're working on your laptop, and all of a sudden, the keyboard stops working. It is frustrating to carry it to the nearest store for laptop repair in Redlands in the middle of your work. Maybe some of the keys are consuming too much time to respond. The worst scenario could be thathe keyboard completely cuts out. Despite being a challenging situationespecially when you have pending work, you must probe and try certain things yourself to ensure that the keyboard starts functioning normally.

It could be either a hardware issue or a software one. What I was told by a technician employed in laptop repair in Pomona is that before you try random solutions, to must evaluate the issue. Check if there is something wrong with the keyboard hardware only, or is a software failure that is preventing Windows from identifying keystrokes. Probing this can save a lot of time for you.

You can probe by rebooting your computer and entering the UEFI or BIOS, normally by pressing "Delete," "Esc," or some other key while your laptop boots. If you can’t enter the BIOS and navigate it with your keyboard, it may so happen that it’s a hardware issue. If you find that you are able to enter the BIOS, and the keys are properly working within that menu, then the issue lies exclusively within Windows.

Exit the BIOS without saving your changes and try the fixes mentioned below for your laptop keyboard repair.

1.Boot Up Issue

Solution- Reboot Your PC

Going by the advice mentioned above, you probably have already done this. However, if you’ve attempted to power it off and on again, then a reboot rectifies a lot of problems. If you fail to use the trackpad or mouse to reboot the PC, simply hold down the power button for almost 10-15 seconds to switch off the PC and then switch it back on.

If that doesn't solve the issueattempt booting into Safe Mode and check if that works. Though it can't solve the issue permanently, it will assist you in ascertaining if your keyboard is defective or not.

2.Keyboard Driver Issue

Solution- Reinstall Your Keyboard Driver

Often the driver controlling your keyboard can face challengesespecially if you often install third-party software or you switch off your devicevery time without applying the Shut Down command.

Go to the Start menu and type "Device Manager." Press Enter and enlarge the Keyboards section. In the instance of any of the items within this section with yellow exclamation points next to them could be an issueHowever, you may fail to find an exclamation point. Then it’ll be better to right-click your keyboard in this menu and select Uninstall Driver. If you reboot your PC, then Windows should automatically grab the generic drivers for your keyboard, eventually leading it to function again.

If the above step proves futilethen go to the laptop manufacturer's support page and install the latest drivers for the keyboard. In case, there's no keyboard driver, attempt to reinstall the chipset or USB drivers.

3.Keyboard Settings Issue

Solution- Adjust Your Keyboard Settings

Specific software settings may compel your keyboard to behave weirdly, even if they were expected to be effectiveGo to your keyboard's settings and open the Start menu. Type "Control Panel," and search for Keyboard in the upper-right corner of the Control Panel window.

Againif there is a delay between pressing a key and that character appearing on screen, you may wish to adjust the Filter Keys setting. From the Start menu, figure out Ease of Access, enter that menu, and select the option "Make the keyboard easier to use." If Filter Keys are turned on, uncheck that box and press OK and check whether it is fruitful enoughEnsure that Sticky Keys are turned off too in this menu.

4. Keyboard Layout Issue

Solution- Change Your Keyboard Layout

Maybe your keyboard keys are working but producing other letters compared to the ones as indicated by the keys, then maybe your language or keyboard layout got accidentally changed.

Go to the Start menu and type "Language" to search Windows' Region & Language settings panel. Click on it, then scroll down to your list of languages. Click on the one you wish to apply, just for most US users it'll be English (United States). Then click the Options button. Check that the US QWERTY is available under Keyboards on the next page, and get rid of all keyboard layouts you don’t need

5. Virus Issue

Solution- Check Your Anti-Virus

If none of the above solutions solve the problem, your keyboard may be the victim of a virus. Run a malware scan by using any of the leading antivirus protections.

If any of the above steps don’t work then don’t hesitate to seek a laptop repair in South Riverside.
